Health Surveillance

Regular monitoring of staff can protect you by identifying early signs of work related damage. Health surveillance can be tailored to your company’s health & safety requirements

Our experienced occupational health advisors can carry out whatever medicals you require, such as;

  • Spirometry (Lung function)
  • Audiometry (Hearing)
  • Vision Testing
  • HAVS assessments (Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome)
  • Skin tests
  • Night worker assessments

Chemicals, dusts and other particles can be prevalent in some working environments.

A spirometry assessment can identify any breathing problems which may be in the early stage of development.

If certain dusts and chemicals are frequently inhaled they can have an impact on one’s health, if the effects of inhaling chemicals or dust can be detected then treatment can be carried out before the employee encounters health problems.

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations place a duty on employers to reasonably and practicably reduce the risk of hearing damage to the lowest level.

We can carry out an audiometry screening to asses the employees hearing capabilities and identify any impairment or damage.

Vision Testing

Vision screening is an essential part of health surveillance. Conducting a vision assessment on criteria such as;

  • Near vision
  • Middle vision
  • Distance vision
  • Eye co-ordination
  • Colour blindness
  • Depth perception

Can ensure that weaknesses can be identified, and corrective action through professional eye care can be received.

Our experienced and trained Occupational Health Nurse Advisors can examine for HAVS. When managing a HAVS case we consider-

  • Advise on reducing the impact of the condition
  • Measures to reduce ongoing vibration exposure
  • Individual functional assessment and judging fitness for work
  • Medico-legal regulatory considerations

Implementation of COSHH regulations should minimise the impact of skin irritations in the workplace.

We can carry out routine skin assessments on employees in order to assess the risk of Occupational Dermatitis and to advise on preventative measures.
